Tour my Orton-Gillingham Based Classroom

 I had a small class size full of amazing students diagnosed with Dyslexia in grades second and third. Therefore, everything I do, for eight hours a day, is based on the Orton-Gillingham Approach! I teach all subjects and incorporate many multi-sensory techniques. In this post I am going to take you on a tour of my classroom and include some of my favorite Orton-Gillingham based activities! These photos are of of my classroom at the very beginning of the school year so that you can get a feel of the space that I was able to work with.

Below was my small group area where I conducted all of my small group Orton-Gillingham lessons. I had 3-4 students in a small group. I organized my materials using my OG teacher toolbox, bins from the dollar store, and drawers for paper sized materials. Labels for the drawers can be found here. The posters shown can be found here. This is a view of my classroom from 2017-2018. Back then I had a Sound Board which was essentially the same as the trending sound wall. I basically adding my phonogram cards to the wall/bulletin board as I taught them. Read about adding a sound wall to your classroom here.

I hope this sneak peek into my Orton-Gillingham classroom sparks some ideas to bring into your own classroom.
